I hope you read ths answer all the way down here because when I read this question I had a deep...sense of happiness to know there are still unbiased people out there. All my thoughts could take up a library so I will give you some advice. Your brain is your most important asset so don't let anyone deceive you. A book I highly recommend is "A History of God" as it provides some great insight to Islam, especially Sufi Islam (very peaceful and loving sect which seeks God's divine glory through dissolving our greed and ego). Also here are sme websites you can beigin to read. I wish you the best of luck on your journey to Islam and that it be paved in ease for you, despite the challenges that surround you.

You see how many people on here have are crticising Islam without even looking at the Quran? If I wanted to critcise christianity I could also do it in the exact smae way relying on the media and other sources, I could say Christianity was the force behind Hitlers motive to kill the Jews:

Hence today I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord

Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Page. 60

Timothy McVeigh in 1995 killed 168 people in the Oklahoma Bombings, In 1993, 77 members of the Branch Davidian Christian sect perished in the Waco siege, including at least 20 innocent children.

Eric Robert Rudolph planted bombs at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, two abortion clinics and a gay nightclub to advance his religious ideology. In 1978, Reverend Jim Jones killed more than 900 of his followers by giving them a cyanide-laced drink in northern Guyana.

The Sabra and Shatila massacre was carried out by the by Lebanese Maronite Christian militias at the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps, while the Israeli military guarded the exits and continued to provide flares by night.

There was only one quote given here by AHMED R, he quoted 9:29,

"Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day..."(Quran 9:29)

The answer is given a few verses before:

What! will you not fight a people who broke their oaths and aimed at the expulsion of the Messenger, and they attacked you first; do you fear them? But Allah is most deserving that you should fear Him, if you are believers. (Quran 9:13)

After signing the Hudaybiah pact with the Quraish of Makkah, where by the Muslims would be allowed to carry out their pilgrmiage in two years time rather than that year, and that the other tribes around Arabia could side with whomever they wished and that both parties would not war, this included thier allies.

The Quraish attacked the Muslim allies and this led to the taking over Makkah, were no blood was shed and even after enduring so much hate from the Quraish the Prophet (pbuh) forgave them. This was unheard of in the Arab world where they were used to killing people for little matters.

Reading the many answers this person is recieving from many of u all has really disgusted me. I mean who do you think u all r? Comin round and critising a religion u dont even know of holds absolute no justification. The ones who critisise Islam, dont know the first thing about it. Dont just judge it by the media or the actions of wrong doers, judge by what has been written in black and white - thats only if u can understand what is being said in black and white - its no good taking a verse from the Holy Quran and saying well this is what it says and i guess this what it probably means, thats no good coz ur wrong go back to the almighty's holy words and study them in more detail - oh i just remembered u probably don't know what ur own religion is about let alone studying another. lets face it, U people (or should i really call u people) just need the excuse, i mean any excuse to come and throw abuse at another religion.

Islam means peace it means in every aspect of ur life there should be a mission of creating peace. Not about spreading hatred in the world that must be the books u probably study and thats why i sense so mush hatred coming from u all. I just wanna say get ur facts right, u guys dont sound like angels to me, you get love and respect if u are willing to give it!!!! And i dont c it in any of u!

You believe in Allah and the Quran and you say the shahadah where you basically just say that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and Muhammed is his messenger (La ilaha il Allah, Muhammad-ur-Rasool-Allah).

Edit: Oh and I wish you the best for the future. If you do convert then congratulations, you will not regret it. Also for some of the comments other people have said, don't listen to them. If you truly wish to seek knowledge about Islam, then you would see that it is a very peaceful religion, and certain individuals shouldn't put you off believing in Allah and following the Quran.

Check list for yourself
Do you like slitting animals throats whilst alive so that you can then eat halal meat?
Do you like your women to cover themselves up in public?
Do you like your women to 'worship' separately from yourself?
Do you agree never to criticise Islam at risk of a fatwa being placed upon you (reference Salman Rushdie)?
Do you agree never to try to revoke your faith as that can ( in some countries ) mean a death sentence?
Do you intend to live in a Muslim country and do it for real?

To those people posting insulting things about Islam here, please do not do this. If you want people to respect your beliefs you should also show respect for other people's beliefs. The idea that all Muslims are terrorists is just Western pro-war propaganda designed to dehumanise the enemy so that it is easier to kill them. By saying such things you are behaving like the Al Qaeda terrorists, who see non-Muslims as Kaffirs.

In answer to crusty who asked the question, it is very easy to convert to Islam, you recite the shahada in Arabic before two male Muslim witnesses. See:
http://www.iprofess.com/howtoconvert.htm

However, before you convert to Islam, ask another question: if you later decide to change your religion, how do you un-become a Muslim? In some places your life may be at risk if you change your mind later.

Well I guess belief in Allah would be a good place to start. If you did then you wouldn't be asking the question. I'd just give up if I was you.

It takes religion to make good people to bad things.

Look I was told by a new Moslem from the west he is a DR it took him 2 years to become a Moslem and I asked why he "said I read 50 books about Islam pro and cons"

I think you are a Muslim trying to advertize for your religion this way. No person from other religion would want to become Muslim, unless s/he is wishing to be chained for the rest of his life.

But if you are really not a muslim then you should know that once you accepted Islam you can not change your mind and change your religion again. You might pay for such action with your life. (That also means your children born being Muslim are also not allowed to change their religion.)
