when we were sitting on the bed in my room, she ran in jumped on the bed, and started "humping" or doing something like that to our backs. She is a border collie/wheaten terrier mix. Why does she do this and how can I stop/prevent this?

We did not have her spayed yet, our vet said dont bother because we will not be getting her very close to male dogs. Also, this sounds dumb but--what does "heat" mean??

DID U HAVE HER SPAYED/NEUTERED?
THIS MIGHT HAPPEN BECAUSE HE/SHE IS GOING THROUGH HEAT AND THE MATING PROCESS.

First of all, get her fixed. However, being female, this is probably not about "sex", but about dominance. You'll want to start doing some dominance training with her. Research it on the 'net. Some basics are: Make her "wait" for her food. Tell her to sit, then put her bowl down while telling her to "wait". Once she's waited long enough (you can gradually increase the time), tell her to "get it" and let her eat. Doing this is mimicking the pack heirarchy dogs have. The head dog dictates when the other pack members eat. By making her wait, you are showing her that YOU are the head dog. Making her wait at doors is another one. Entering an area first is a sign of dominance in the canine world. YOU should be the leader and she should be the follower. There's a lot of other simple things you can teach her to remind her that you are the boss also, like flipping her onto her back (gently) and holding her there until she stops struggling. Dogs go "belly up" when submitting to dominant dogs (you'll see this in play between dogs), so by forcing her to submit to you, it's accomplishing the same thing. I'd suggest doing this immediately any time she humps you or another human. It's something you want to get take care of now, before it gets any worse. Good luck!

A Yorkshire Terrier did this to me before too. I highly recommend the book "Cesar's Way Book - The Natural, Everyday Guide to Understanding and Correcting Common Dog Problems" it worked for my two dogs the day I started to use the ideas. Also my dog was neutered nd still humped stuff around the house.

A lot of dogs do that and for them it is natural. If you want to prevent the behavior ensure that you do not give her attention when she does this. Push her away and ignore her. If she does it again push her away again but don't give her too much attention for doing it. If you have her de-sexed it will decrease the likely hood of this behavior and also protects her from unwanted pregnancies and going on heat.

She could be in heat. This is one reason why I like cats better I have never seen a cat do this Ugh! Are you going to get her spayed? You should do this right away if so. The surgery could stop this disgusting habit.

She probably is coming into heat. Has she been spayed yet? That could be the answer, if not she needs some behaviour modification training. Check with your pet store or breeder for a trainer who can help you.

You can't do anything about nature...can you stop breathing?

Anyways, my suggestion is that when you to th vet ask if she is in heat? Because if she is then that would explain her doing it more often...so if you want to decrease her tendencies then proceed to have her getting fixed before she becomes an adult and at that point it doesn't help....

Your puppy is trying to dominate you and your friends. Most people think this is sexual but it isn't. It has nothing to do with sex. Tell him/her no and make sure she understands that you are the boss (Alpha). once she see that you are not going to let him/her do it to you he/she will stop. This is normal behavior, especially with very dominant dogs, just don't let her do it to YOU. Laying them on their back works, it's showing them you are the boss. Good luck!

Your dog is expressing her dominance over you/your friends. Push her off when she does this to show you are the boss. You can arm yourself with a spray bottle of water and squirt her in the face with a stream to discourage it even more.

its an attempt to establish alpha dog. make sure you make it clear where she stands in the pack. make sure she is spayed as well, it helps to take the dominance out of her.

well if the puppy isn't spaid then you should probebly get her spaid and that would probably stop the situation. most dogs do that to show dominince they are trying to show everyone that they're in charge and they're the boss
