I was just married in the Catholic church in June. And honestly it depends on the priest marrying you. Some don't mind but it really isn't a part of the Catholic ceremony. We hadn't planned on having one and the priest that married us kind of suggested that he'd prefer not to have one...but he would have let us if we wanted. We also didn't take the flowers to Mary like some people do.

I agree with a the others here. My wife and I lit a unity candle during our Catholic ceremony (Mass and all). Some Priests are very old fashioned and will not allow it because it is not part of the mass. Ask your Priest.

Strictly speaking, a unity candle should not be on the altar, our Priest bent the rules. Sometimes the unity candle is off to the side.

Optional, but yes, they do sometimes. My best friend did a unity candle at her Catholic ceremony.

I'm Catholic and I did light a unity candle.
If I remember correctly, when I met with the church wedding coordinator, they asked if this is something we wanted to do.

Sure it is. I've been to many Catholic weddings where Ave Maria was played while the couple lit the unity candle.

Unity candles are an optional part of any religion's ceremony.

It's something that the bride and groom can use to symbolize their union. They are the ones who determine its part in their union.

I'm not Catholic so I may be totally wrong in saying this, but it's not something I have ever heard of in the UK, so maybe it is just USA Catholics that do that. Forgive me if I am wrong.

Just last summer I attended my teacher's Catholic wedding and I don't remember any candles being lit, which is what I'm assuming is being performed.
