Well, me and my friend were walking and this cat with a collar followed us home from like a block away! so its house must be around there. I put a blanket outside for it but it won't lay on it and it's meowing and putting his paws on my door trying to get in! I feel bad and want to let it in but I already have a cat and they will fight! What should I do?

call the humane society right away. the owners might be going z dont let it go stray. looking for his, as well as the cat looking for his owners. i was at the H.S. looking for a . kitty for my lonely cat that lost 2 of her buddies within a week of each other and you should see the sweet strays that no one has claimed.the one you found must havea home if he had a collar and followed you.dont leaave him alone. people are cruel and might hurt him or he might get run over by a car.all thenhumane society right away.

Try putting up posters as a found cat and if no one claims it's theirs, then keep it, but I'm guessing you're not allowed to keep it at boarding school, so then you can give it to a shelter, but wait a month or longer before doing this as the owners could take a while answering, and wouldn't be pleased if their cats been given away. My cat Tiggs walked into someones house and ate their cats food and they put up posters and she didn't want to come back, so when their cat died, we gave her to them, this is a bit irrelevant but still.. OR you could buy a cheap collar and a I.D. tag (costs about £1 at pet shops) and write in that its following you, is there an owner? So when it goes home they would read it and write back.

You could put out a sign that you found the cat with your phone number on it. You could visit your neighbors and ask about the cat. Your cat and this cat may fight at first, but cats usually tolerate each other after a few days if you decide to keep it.

- check the collar to see if it has a number.
- you could put the cat in another room for now with food and water untill you find who it belongs to.
- take a picture of it and post around the neighborhood.
try to find the owner as soon as you can. they are probably very worried.

Make up fliers describing the cat. Knock on doors, someone must know where the cat belongs.Maybe the cat will just give up and go home on it's own.

The other suggestions - post flyers, ask around, etc - are good ones. (You should also be able to post flyers at the local vets' offices & pet stores!
One more thing you can do is call some local vets/animal shelters and see who has a micro-chip reader - if the kitty is chipped, you will be able to call and the service will get in touch with the owners.
