You can claim her if she is a dependent and not filing separately. Oh, and getting money back depends on a lot of other factors so I can't answer that based on the info you provided.

The IRS changed the rules for dependency test this year. New rules include:
1. Lives in same household or be a qualifying relative - mother is
2. You provide MORE than 50% of the support
3. Mother can NOT have more than $3300 of income (which is the standard deduction for a dependent.

You can not claim her as a dependent if someone else claims you as a dependent on their tax return.

I can't tell you whether you'll get money back, but if your mother is an eligible dependent, you will reduce the amount that you owe or increase your refund, one or the other.

Getting money back depends on many factors, i.e. w/holdings. Yes one can claim one mother as a dependent if one meets certain requirements... she doesn't even has t live with you...but you have to document you provided more than 50% of her living expenses. And make sure you have supporting documentation.... consult your tax man....

if she is your dependent I believe you can list her on your taxes, but she has to be living with you for that I believe.
