It isn't recommended because it suggests that you haven't had a broad education. By going to a different school for grad work you will experience different perspectives, different professors, etc. If you get both degrees at the same school employers may think you could not get accepted to another school.

"Weird" wouldn't be the right adjective. There are some disadvantages to remaining at the same university for undergraduate and graduate school, the primary one being that you deny yourself the exposure to different faculty and settings. Are you reluctant to change schools because you are comfortable at your undergraduate university? You may want to consider branching out to diversify your educational experience. Do you mean University of California? Think about changing to a different campus at the very least or, if you can swing it financially, a smaller, private school to balance the experience in a large, state school. Good luck!

A lot of people would say that this is a bad thing. I think it depends on the school and the program. If the school/program is really known for being great, it wouldn't be a bad thing. Or, if your school is known for having a great networking system, you may want to stay. For example, my husband did his undergrad and masters at Texas A&M. Since we're planning to stay in Texas, there are a huge number of Aggies who would love to employ him just because of where he got his degrees. It doesn't hurt that his Master's program is one of the top programs in the US.

I don't know what your degree is in, but most schools will encourage you to go out and get another degree elsewhere to broaden your horizens and research interests beyond your own department. Also, it might make it look like you couldn't get into any other schools if you just stay at yours.

There are programs that skip the bachelors and you continue to a Masters at the same school.
