i live in scotland and have been thinking of fostering for a while now. I have no idea who to contact or where to start, any info would be much appreciated. thanks

Hi Jo,Im in Edinburgh and my husband and i have just applied to be foster parents.A social worker came to the house before Xmas to interview us and give us some info(as you can imagine a lot of children waiting to be fostered/adopted have been through some horrible stuff and to make sure you understand what youre getting into)she asks about the acccomodation you have ,if you work.any criminal records ect it lasted about an hour.She told us there and then that pending checks she would accept us onto the course.The course is 6 meetings with people explaining everything about fostering and youre chance to ask what you want(there will be approx 8 other couples wanting to foster as well at these meetings and also foster parents already fostering to answer any questions.After that they do a approx 9 month home study where they come to youre house maybe every two weeks to speak to you.There will be a full disclosure done on you (you get to see results) and you need to have 2 character references .It will then go to court where you and youre social worker are present and you will be told then if you have been succesful.After that the social worker places a child "they" think would fit into youre family.I am with St Andrews childrens society i googled fostering Edinburgh and about a dozen places came up .I applied on line for some info they sent out a pack with application form and it went from there.Good luck if you decide to go ahead we,re really excited about it all.x
