when you say something, such as, "all of his efforts were not in vain"
what does that mean??
or if u say, he died in vain?

his efforts were worth something, or successful as opposed to he died in vain, meaning it accomplished nothing, a waste of a life for nothing.

Being in vain means being a nothing.

In vain is similar to saying "without purpose". For example, "I love him in vain" would be similar to saying "I love him, but he does return my love". To say someone died in vain is to say that someone died without having reached their goal. To say that someone's efforts were not in vain is to say that their efforts did assist in their cause.

If all his efforts were not in vain then he had a chance or was going to be successful.

he died in vain would be that he died for no reason.

if you do something in vain your doing it without getting any gratification in return, for nothing really. being vain is being conceited.

"in vain" - to do something for nothing, uneccesarily (sp?).
He didn't die in vain, means, he didn't die for no prupose, his death was meaningful.
