I will try to help you to answer that question the best I can.
First :
What is the price range?
What are his interests?
I got a nice inexpensive ring from my girlfriend before she became my wife. I love it so much I never take it off. That was our first year anniversary, wouldn’t you know it. I forgot all about it. Man if he does please do not think he don’t love you. Men are just a bit different as in the hard wire.

One year is a real milestone. I would still keep it fairly simple at this point. Maybe some cologne and a musical CD of some song/artist he likes. Use whatever money you have left over to take him out to a nice resturaunt and then a movie or dancing or whatever activity he enjoys. At one year, it's not about the gift, it's about the thoughtfullness of the giver. Good Luck!

My boyfriend and I didn't do too much for one year anniversary. His birthday was a month before though and I bought concert tickets for us to go see one of his favorite bands that was playing in town. keep in mind we are engaged two months later too though so that was kind of a big gift.

I would get him something that would require waiting another period of time to enjoy: a bottle of wine, a course that starts 4 months from now, etc. Something that says, "I want a (short term) future with you."

depends. is he your 14 year old boyfriend? is he 20's 30's? age is everything when you need to know what to get someone. for teens i would not get him anything except maybe a card. and definately not something expensive. don't give him your virginity. bake him some cookies.
if older than teens. make him dinner.

You might prepare a steak and potatoes dinner. Does he like to cook with you in the kitchen? Maybe he'd like an All-clad skillet or a Hinckels chef knife.
(I don't like to suggest what people might do in private... you know what to do about that)

well there is this thing online where you can order a message in a bottle that has a personalized message from you. I suggest ordering that and watching the movie message in a bottle and then giving it to him.

Get him something that will make him think of you. Like something you have made personally. Write something for him or if your artistic paint him a picture.
