Starter might not actually be going but rather continuing to turn over because the bendix drive is not disengaging from the flywheel. In other words electric is cut off but starter still turns. make sure that the starter doesn't need to be shimmed I have seen more than one case where someone over the years in changing a starter didn't replace the shims and had problems.

The starter on older Jeeps is like than in a Ford. The solenoid that delivers the power to the starter is mounted on the fender near the battery.
The starter on newer Jeeps is like that of a GM and is mounted on the starter itself.
If the solenoid is sticking and continuing to power the starter, it must be replaced (or repaired).
In some conditions, the starter gear may be too close to the flywheel (ring gear) and is getiing stuck engaged.
Very rarely the ignition switch is sticking.

Go buy yourself a new starter relay or swap it with another in the fuse/ relay box under the bonnet, something such as the horn relay. Check with the numbers printed on the relays that they are the same. Other than that, is the key returning fully back to the run position after you have started the car. Over here in the UK, we have a lot of problems with ignition barrels, mainly due to owners having a huge set of keys or other things on their keyrings..

I extremely have a ninety 9 Olds Intrigue and each so often the motor vehicle purely won't start up. there is not something incorrect with it and if i am going away for quarter-hour or so and are available lower back it starts off suited up. One mechanic informed me that could be a secure practices function and that the motor vehicle will commonly reset the secure practices and initiate off in a mutually as. A tow truck motive force informed me the comparable element. I extremely have never discovered every person that would "restoration" it, yet approximately each 3-4 months it purely won't start up and that i sit down and wait a mutually as and then it starts off up. This very generally happens to me at QuikTrip - such as you suggested...a short trip to the keep. sturdy success.

Having owned several Jeeps, I have to agree that the culprit is likely the starter solenoid.
They are relatively inexpensive and can be changed out in under a half our by your average shade tree mechanic.

Must be in the switch or the starter solenoid.
