from 7 in the morning till 830 when I take him to school, and 330 when I pick him up from school till 5 or 6. The kid is a handful-he's 6 and the mother wants me to babysit him instead of after-day school which would be 400 dollars.I'm thinking 300 a month-what do you think?

What 6 year old isn't a handful?? LOL! I think that's a little high, but I agree with other answers on here...the transportation twice a day is worth a little more. I would be willing to pay closer to $15.00 an hour. Start high in case of a negotiation!

If I understand you correctly, you are watching a 6 year old for about 3 hours per day, 5 days per week. If you are charging $300 per month that's around $17 per hour. I'm not sure I would pay that much for sitter services. However, it sounds like the mother wants the quality of a one on one sitter as opposed to the after-day school program, so she might be willing to pay you well. You can try for the $300 a month, but be prepared to negotiate. One thing in your favor is that you are picking him up and transporting him. That is a lot of responsibility - so go for it!

I do babysitting and charge 150 a month for just the after school hours per kid. If this child is a handful more reasourses ie. tylonol or something is extra lmao. If you are comfortable 300 sounds very reasonable, I was always told i was not charging enough.

Easily $350. The after school program would be $400, but that is for exact times. If the mom is late, she will be charged by the minute in some cases. She is probably comfortable with your care and doesn't want to start somewhere again.

Depends on how old you are and how experienced you are. If you are of comprable age and skill as the after school program care-givers you should charge more than the after school program for 1 child. Typically the the cost of about 1.5 - 2 kids is what the cost of a "private" care would be. This is based on our experience here in the Boston, MA area.

Um...I wouldn't charge 17 bucks an hour...the highest I would go would be 12 bucks an hour. And mind you, I live in Northern California, so all of the parents around here are filthy rich.

I'd go with 400-450. Sounds like you're the substitute parent! It's a shame his mother can't be bothered to "babysit" her own child. Do you know first aid, or CPR? Do you have any experience or education in child care? Are you expected to feed him breakfast, lunch and dinner? Plus snacks? Are you required to drive him to any activities or medical appointments? Can he read? What do you think a "mother" could be worth?
It's amazing to me how "cheap" people want to get when it comes to someone spending the majority of time in a day with their children. As though you can put a price on substitute parents. What's wrong with this picture?

PS If something should happen, such as a serious injury, when he's in your care, do you have any protection against lawsuits or any insurance?

I would say you do a lot. But you are doing her a favor. Try talking it out w/ her. Make of list of things and what the kid does. I would say 15/ hr is high for 1 kid but i'm not there, and yes daycare is expensive. I would say 10/hr.

I have a babysitter for my son.
She watches him from 8 am-8:45 am and takes him to school.
And she picks him up at 3:45pm until we pick him up at 5 pm.

I pay her $50/week.

I think that is reasonable. Seeing as he's a handful and you have to go there twice in one day.
