I told my friends what is going on and they blame my parents for their lifestyles and the way they cook.I know mostly why I am big is because of laziness, but is my mom and stepdad helping me get fatter by the cooking?

If you are old enough to blame your parents, you are also old enough to do something about your weight. No, it is not easy, but you can do it. Perhaps you will inspire your parents.

Ask your parents for the gift of a membership at Weight Watchers. You WILL lose weight and you will do it safely. In the mean time, here are some suggestions.

Burn more calories than you eat. Learn to read food labels. 3,500 extra calories makes you a pound fatter, 3,500 calories under what you need will make you lose a pound. You could probably start with about 1500 calories a day and lose weight. As you get closer to your goal, you need to cut down more. Keep a journal of what you eat and how many calories were in the food.

Basically, switch to non-fat or 1% milk or diary products. You still need calcium at your age. Lower calories, avoid fat (fat calories are also found on labels) increase fiber. The less processed a food is, the better it is for you. Fruits, vegetables, lean meats and fish are all excellent. Fried food is a disaster. Fast food is a disaster. Most bagged snacks like chips are a disaster, but pretzels are excellent.

When you want to eat, check to see if you are really hungry. You might be angry or lonely or tired. If that is the case, take care of those needs first.

Weigh yourself only once a week, on the same day and at the same time. This will prevent you from being discouraged.

If you really want something, have it, but have a small portion. Learn to measure portions. Get an inexpensive food scale and mearsuring cups and spoons. Really notice the taste, feel, texture of the food. Put your fork down between bites.Chew slowly. Eat as if this the first time you are ever eating this food or it is the very last time you will have it. Savor each bite.

Try to walk for 30 minutes or more each day. If 30 minutes is too hard start more simply. Walk for 2 minutes and 30 seconds, turn around and come back. After a week, increase by one minute each way until you can do 30-60 minutes a day.

Good luck.

Being big is/can be hereditary. My 14 year old is HUGE at 6' tall and weighs I think the last time we were in around what you do. I have always been short and I do not weigh that much. His father is 6'6" might be 6'7" and weighs what a person of his hight weighs (we are divorced so I am not sure as to what he weighs these days), but was very big for his age when he was 14.
I cook everything around here (or try to but him being a teenager he can get stuff other places). It is the size of portions and how much fast food junk that is consumed. Fast food to us is junk food. Then of course you have the chips, dip, candy, etc. Remember you are still growing! Like my ex and my boys you may be going through that pudgy stage...

It is nice and easy to blame everything on the parents, and this can be a legit excuse. You are at the age that this is not going to work forever. Blaming parents is a easy way out many do take. You are 13 now and it is time to take control. If parents are making a fattening meal do not put down your mother or father down just do not eat as much. Take you dog for a walk, or go with a friend or go alone, safety first!!
Lay off the bacon, fast food. Eat more salads and raw foods.
Good luck and it wont be easy! But I feel you can do it!

When you know better, you do better. Your Mom and Step-dad helped get you the way that you are because they never taught you how to eat healthy, proper portion sizes, and probably no excercise. Now you know what causes obesity. Do something about it. Maybe you could help your parents along the way.

what you should do it talk to them about it. make an appointment for all of you to go to meet with the doctor and they can put you on a healthy diet and exersize plan. if your family doesn't wanna join in with you then that is their problem. you can be healthy all on your own. good luck, it's going to be a hard road but it will only get better.
