Different plants have different types of light to grow, but natural sunlight contains all the necessary wavelengths any plant could possibly need. Just be careful with direct sunlight.

In a house, fluorescent bulbs do not emit enough red wavelengths and incandescent bulbs do not emit enough blue wavelengths, but combining both types of lighting works well. There are also fluorescent bulbs that are designed to emit light that is almost the real thing.

A plant would grow faster by sunlight. In order to go through photosynthesis it needs to absorb sunlight. After both the light and dark reactions of photosynthesis occur, the glucose molecule is transported to the mitocandria by way of the endoplasmic reticulum or an opperation of the gulgi apparatus. Once it is taken to the mitocandria it goes through a process known as aerobic respiration. This process results in energy, therefore making this plant grow.
I guess a lamp would work too. But, I think natural sunlight would make a plant grow faster.
