The Army is the backbone of the military. They have not only the largest combat formations but also the bulk of the support troops required to keep a military force in the field. In a operation like Iraq the AF and the Marines can rotate in 6 months because they are moving small groups of personnel. If the Army was rotating like this it would require even more troops to be deployed just to support the flow of moving troops, supplies, and equipement in and out of country.

Hmmmm let's see now..

Could it be because the Air Force deal with causing damage and providing air cover from the air...

Could it be because the Navy provide cover on the high seas..

Could it be because the Army are left to deal with the terrorists on the ground.. hiding in caves in the hills... under-ground in bunkers that have to be found first?.. Oh let's not forget put the bodies into body bags and clear up the the carnage after a skimish, battle, roadside bomb... Shall I go on?

Out of that list, which do you thnk may take the longest to perform and deal with?

It's the Army. Apparently once you sign up you give them the body and the soul. And here all these other people were thinking about cutting a deal with the devil. Ha!

It depends on what you consider long, I guess. My husband is Air Force and spent almost a year in iraq last year, came home for Christmas and went straight back the day after Christmas. i don't feel any sympathy..sorry.

Michele, why would I feel sympathy for my husband? He WANTS to be there. That's why he joined in a time of war. He loves his job. Although deployments are not ideal, they apparently don't affect air force wives they way they affect whining army wives!

because of our resorces. the army is set up to sastain itself longer than any other ground branch. see marines are small units they need larger army support units. so thats why. its bigger than any other branches. because they cover the main support for the troops on the ground.

Because they hold ground after the Marines take it. Or so they say.
