Some branches of Christianity do allow divorce and re-marriage. Maybe a followup question might be: "What does Jesus teach (if anything) about divorce and remarriage?"

I'm not a biblical scholar, but I believe the norm for marriage as presented in the Bible is a life-long commitment, unless one partner irreparably damages the marriage through the betrayal of adultery.

Actually, Biblical Christianity does allow divorce and remarriage when the divorce is on Biblical grounds--adultery. The Bible teaches that God hates divorce and that forgiveness is the better course, but it does allow that the human heart may not be able to forgive adultery, and it allows divorce and remarriage for this reason. It also allows the divorced person who was divorced for some other reason to remarry if his or her spouse first remarries someone else.

God's Word does allow for those people who divorce due to adultery, to remarry. That was not His ideal plan, though. God's plan was for one man and one woman to be together from marriage to death. As a Christian who has been there, divorces do more than trash families, they trash your soul. Until a divorced person has truly allowed God's healing to take place completely, any "baggage" from a divorce will tarnish a remarriage, and posisbly infect it with the same or similar issues!

Christians can divorce and remarry.
The Bible allows only one ground for divorce with the possibility of remarriage, and that is “fornication”—sex relations outside the marriage.—Matthew 19:9.

Marriage is sacred because it is a symbol of God's love for his church. God's love for the church is described as a husband's love for his wife.

Jesus indicated that, in a Christian marriage, it is not just man but God himself who unites husband and wife. Since God unites the couple, we creatures cannot do anything to dissolve that union.

Jesus teaches us in His word that the remarriage of divorcees whose former spouses are still alive is wrong. There is probably an exception for adultery. Christians are required to be faithful to His teaching.

They do. I have remarried and the wedding was in a Christian Church. It was never God's plan for divorce, but it happens. and I found the Church very accepting of my remarriage. I don't know where you got your info.

because who you are to be with is who you are to be with. if you marry someone that god has not intended for you to be with that is something you suffer for.that is why the bible says to seek ye first the kingdom of heaven.so that you know god is directing you to into the place he wants you to be.the bible does allow you to re-marry if your spouse dies.possibly if they cheat as well. but to just re-marry because your no longer interested in that person is not a good enough reason
