I just got a new puppy, and he keeps peeing in the house. People have suggested the kennel proccess. How does that work?

You take the pup out at night and make sure it goes. Then put it in the crate. As soon as you wake up or hear the pup get up themn and take it out. It is a baby and instead of a diaper you are training. Take out asap and then put back in crate with toys or whatever. There may be accidents but the crate will hold them and cleaning is easy. You are training the pup to hold it's bladder and that takes time for them just like kids. They have to learn to hold it and they have to train their bladders too. So, be patient. Take the pup out and when you're home keep in a room that isn't so hard to clean, like the kitchen and when it starts to smell around get it outside. Each time it makes it outside make a big deal out of it and praise and reward it. Really this will make it understand. Also, you can put the paper towel from cleaning out in the yard the first time so it can smell it out in the yard until it goes a few times. This will take at least 3-6 mos. for the pup to get where you can trust ita and not have to be so on the ball, it may tell you by gouing to the door, always reward this behavior too. Good luck.

Go to http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_care/our_pets_for_life_program/dog_behavior_tip_sheets/crate_training.html. This is *excellent* step-by-step information on how to use a crate to help housetrain a puppy. But the biggest thing is PAY ATTENTION. Puppies are like babies...they need to be taught right and wrong. Are you getting him out every hour or so? Praising when he pees outside? Most puppies catch on quite quickly...but you have to really pay attention.

Whatever method you choose, put a wee wee pad down in several places in your home and one outside. There is a chemical in them that attracts animals who have the urge to urinate. As your dog becomes better trained, remove one pad at time, until none are left insife your house and only the outside one remains. Took my dog about a week to be trained, but you have to be with them all the time. It pays to take off work to do this.

our puppy did this for a while. start taking him out every two hours and get him used to the system. when you take him out, say something like "go pee" and "go poop" and when they finish, tell them "good boy or good girl." that way they will know what you are telling them to do. if that doesn't work, give him a treat when he does his business. when he pees in the house hold him over it and say "no no."

Good luck and God bless!

Crate train him. Keep him in the crate when you are sleeping, not home or not able to watch him. Take him outside immediately when you take him out of the crate. Take him out within 15 minutes of eating. If you have him loose in the house watch him for signs that he has to go circling, sniffing and take him outside. When you take him outside stay with him until he goes and praise him alot.
