What's a cool drink for a man to order at a bar?

I don't go out that often, and I hate beer, and well, my drink skills are limited in the fact that I usually go out with girls. So, instead of having the bartenders put my long island iced tea in a man mug, I wanted to know what are some cool drinks out there. Thanks.

Man up and drink man drinks! No fu-fu drinks. No appletinis. No blue hawaiians. No sex on the beach. No fuzzy navels. No. Drink whiskey. American whiskey from Kentucky (bourbon) or Tennessee (sour mash). Drink rye, or scotch. Drink rum or vodka (straight). You can ease into real drinking by ordering scotch and soda or bourbon and water. But that lasts no more than 2 weeks - then to the real man drinks. I am in a similar spot - i tend to hit the town with the girls and just one or two other guys, and as a side effect i was drinking like them too.

Don't like beer - me either, that was untill i tried a pale beer like Hoegarden and then Boags StGeorge. Now if it is on the menu I drink them.

Other drinks, try vodka on ice - the ice kills the strong taste, and it tends to go down nice. Bacardi and lemmonade is another mix that although it is not as cool, goes down well. Rum and cola is great, but don't use a cheap rum - stick to the bacardi.

Have you tried jim beam and coke? Thats not bad, a bit strong if you are used to chick drinks, but after 2 you won't really taste the strength in it - ask them to make it not as strong if you wish, just tell them you are driving. Most bar tenders will be happy.

I love margarita bars, and because Melbourne has a few you can get away with ordering girly drinks there.

But failing all that, have fun with your white wine spritzer and long island iced tea - who gives a toss if you look a little queer, you are having fun, and are surrounded by more girls than any other guy in the bar. You will look like a player, and people just eat that up.

Personally if you're out on a date and driving, If you were sensible enough to only drink soft drinks, I'd think that was cool. I can't bear to see anyone drinking and driving. If of course you're in a position where you can drink alcohol, if you want a long drink (you did mention man mug) how about something like vodka and cranberry juice - (You could ask for a double in a pint pot) red wine (wine glass size) or a pint of cider? My husband isn't above drinking shandy (I know its made from beer, but it is much nicer).
Failing that, what about bottled stuff - like Wkd?

Try a Rusty Nail, they are pretty tasty and pretty manly... Pretty much anything with Scotch is good, its hard to make scotch girly. Try Jack and Coke. I mean it wont be as easy to drink as a long island since those are really sugary with all that sour mix in it, but once you develope a taste for Jack or Scotch... you wont want to go back and if you want some good ideas try www.webtender.com just look around.

Reminds of the time I was at a bar specializing in single malt scotch and a guy ordered a pina colada. The bartender said "We don't make fu fu drinks." Single Barrel Bourdons and single malt scotch, neat (straight), or on the rocks are good choices. But the best advice is to be yourself and order what you want.

I think anything that you order would be fine as long as you sell it like you are all man....like James Bond and his shaken not stirred martini. You just say it with conviction. Most of all, let it be something you like...don't worry about what others think...and if impressing the girl is something you really want...it will depend on her individual tastes as to what impresses her. Some women love for a man to order for them...ordering two drinks for you both might thrill her.

Obviously, the coolest drink for a man to order is the one he actually likes.

Anyway, my personal fave is the margarita...only the best tequila (no hangover), rocks, half salted rim. Never the blended kind or with pre-mixed ingredients. And, if I'm not mistaken, it's a gender neutral drink.

You can just order a Coke, if you want.
You don't have to drink.
But a lot of guys drink rum & Coke.
You can also try 101 & Coke or anything else that you might like.
Just stay away from anything w/ a long name, anything pink, purple, red or well, you get the idea.
