veggies and fruit are an excellant choice, and I think sugarless gum is as well. I quit smoking 3 years ago after smoking for almost 20+ years, gained alot of weight, but have lost all of it and more!! AND I'd do it all over again!! The benefits of not smoking anymore far out "weigh" any weight I put on for that short period of time. I did not watch what I ate, so fight those urges!! A known fact is that when you do quit, your metabolism will slow down at first, so to make up for that you really need to start exercising. It would be helpful to replace one habit for a much healthier one!! BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!!! it's a lot easier than you think!! And OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH so worth it!!!!

Cinnamon sticks (kills taste buds) (zero cal)
Coffee straws (don't eat) --- finger toys --- breath through them.
Exercise: Every time you would smoke, exercise ... little things like jumping jacks for 8 minues (amnt of time it takes to smoke) - 20 times a day. The exercise forces you to breath clean air and gets rid of cravings. Other exercises are standing push-ups (you can do in bathroom stalls - against any wall).
Daily massages are mega helpful - Look up "Migun Thermal Massage" in phone book ... they have free massages.
I used a combination of : 1 time Group Hypnosis, Daily (3 times/day) hypnosis tapes, accupresure (Migun Thermal massage while listening to hypnosis tape) + kickboxing classes (yep, agresssion). Quit date 12/4/05.

That's awesome that you're going to quit smoking. Your body right now is in a huge detoxification phase. A friend of mine quit smoking, and she did a whole body cleanse and detox which really sped up the process of getting all that excess tar and crap out of your body. This will help your snacking too. I can connect you with her, or let you know what she used which dramatically helped her. Good Luck!

First your quitting smoking deserves an applause yaaaaaa.
OK enough of that.
Smoking has become a habit for you, and it take 30 days to break a habit, but if you replace it with a better one it makes it easier and possibly shortens the time. Chewing gum is good, but you need something to keep you hands busy too.

I just read that the only good thing about smoking is that the nicotine speeds metabolism and nicotine gum is a good replacement. Also, I agree with all the celery eaters, it takes more calories to eat it than you are consuming and it's TASTY!!!

I'm trying to do that now too. Today is day 1 and it's been rough. I've been drinking a lot of water and eating hard candy. I've been trying to stay busy by cleaning and starting to exercise when I have a craving. Good Luck to us both!!

you should try the new smoke stopping aid called Chantix. I'm just starting it but have heard great things. It supposedly eliminates cravings by blocing the nicotine receptors. It's not cheap though but is covered by most insurance's.
As far as the weight issue goes, maybe try some non fat hard candies.

Well, if you want to eat something to give you something to do with your mouth other than smoke, then your best bet is raw vegetables, especially things like celery and letture which are mostly cellulose (which your body cannot digest). They contain very few calories.

Celery is good. The water content fills you and all that crunching and chewing fools the brain. Try sprinkling some salt on it
