Because atheists have no faith and willfully ignore the obvious existance of God, and therefore their goal in life becomes trying to destroy other peoples faith and prove (to themselves) that they are right. I know this statement makes alot of atheists mad, but guess what, you guys offend me all the time...

First, there is no atheism category over here. And if it were, I bet that religious people would crowd it as well. So what.
Second, religion and spirituality call for discussion. And many questions are asked here which can and should be answered by people of all confessions, including those of none.
Third, if you wish that atheists quit the category for good, it should be tentatively renamed to "superstition and delusion". This will keep us away. Promise!

Since you are only the 256th person who asks this today, I can understand how you must have missed the other similar questions.

I'm an Atheist, and I am here for many reasons.

1) I have a Christian girlfriend and I want to learn more about her religion.

2) I have lived all my life in Holland, an Atheist country. In Holland all sorts of things are allowed like gay marriage, abortion, euthasia. I see these things as basic human rights. At the same time I see that all these things are far from basic human rights in many other countries, under the pressure of the religious voice.

3) It is a proven fact that Atheist countries like Sweden, Norway, Holland, etc, etc have more human societies than a religious country like the USA. The Atheist countries have lower murder rates, up to 300% lower STD rates just to name a few.

4) Inspite of the fact that again yesterday 40,000 kids died of starvation and aids, people still claim that God heals diseases. They post video's online with all sorts of 'miracle healings' and claim that as proof of the existence of God. There will be people watching that nonsense and stop their medication. There will be people watching it, stopping their medication and therefore they will die. They will die because they saw this video and based on it they will make a wrong decision. The claim "God heals", kills people. It's as simple as that.

To put it short: It's needed to educate the religious people how bad religion is for this planet. I want a better planet for my future children. That's why I'm here.

Perhaps the athiests you speak of are actually looking for some form of spirituality. But clearly based on some of these answers, some just enjoy poking fun at the believers.

i LOVE athiests
"Look at us. We are so far superior that we have broken the bonds of human nature and have risen, unscathed, to a higher knowlege and, therefore, have come to the conclusion that there is no god, therefore, we believe in nothing." It's the religion of Non-belief. Also, sidenote, every religion has different forms (Christians have Baptist, lutherine, etc; rule applies to all religions, i just do'n t want to give examples of every religion... christian was the easiest), but athiesm is the same no matter where you go. "There is no god," thruought the world, looks the same. NOT to be confused with agnostic, which is to say "There is a higher power, we just can't understand it."

Athiesm = religion of non-religion

p.s. the opening quote was a joke, not something I heard an athiest say one time at a starbucks.

I, a real atheist, come here to tell people who believe in misconceptions about atheism and Evolution the truth about both. I hate ignorance.

Also to ask questions and to help answer some (I'm very informative).

We're allowed here just as much as anyone else.

Because we love bugging christians. That's the truth.

No, really, the more you debate about something, the more you learn. I'm an atheist, but I'm still very interested on knowing everything about any religion.

Come one, cheer up, don't whine about us. I know you love us too.

Religion and Spirituality are NOT solely based on theism. My friend is a devout and very spiritual zen buddhist. He is also an atheist. Very very religious and spiritual people have written extensively about how true sprituality is beyond these 'red herrings'.
