Wow that is huge for a Chihuahua. The only thing you can do is to cut down on feedings and no more treats if you want to give a treat now and then then you should cut down on her meals. Buy a weight loss type food and insist that the rest of the family do not give any other food. Maybe you can tell them the harsh realities of why they should not give extra food. What do you mean refuses to walk? If the dog knows that if she all she has to do is buck and not move of course she will not walk. Make your dog walk put a collar and a leash on the dog and if she refuses keep walking, your dog will get tired of being dragged and she will walk. It is good you are concerned but remember you have to make the rest of the family stop giving extra food.

You just gave your own answer. Exercise her more and make the family quit feeding her junk food..Same recipe as for humans losing weight..
It may help if you get a written VET'S opinion to show your family, that they are KILLING your little dog with 'kindness'...Chihuahuas should live a long life, often well into the teens, (17 years is common) but will never fulfill their intended lifespan if overweight.

OK sounds like one spoiled dog to me! I also have a chihuahua and hes only 3.5lbs and he loves to walk! get him to a vet so they can put him on a diet and only feed him 2 times a day. keep the dish far away and believe me he will run not walk lol! I am actually trying to help him gain weight..but I don't overfeed him which is what you have done. You just have to be firm with your family

I would sit down and tell your family about what they are doing to your chihuahua. I own a chihuahua myself . Over feeding the chihuahua or giving it junk food will cause it to be prone to joint injuries, tracheal collapse, chronic bronchitis, and shortened life span.

YOU SHOULD RESTRICT YOUR FAMILY TO FEED HER JUNK FOOD!!!!! TRY BUYING LIGHT DOG FOOD AND FEED HER ON A STRICT SCHEDULE IF IT ISNT ALREADY. ASK THE VET FOR RECOMMENDATIONS. TAKE IT TO THE PARK TO PLAY. STOP GIVING OUT TREATS TO IT

There is a special food made for chihuahuas. I'm not sure what it is called. Just ask your local pet store.
