It's not so much having a passport to get into Canada as having a passport to return to the United States. Starting January 23, you will need a passport to return to the United States from any country when you travel by air. By 2008 it will be land and air.

Since when did Canada independant from US ? I thought you don't need a passport to go into US colonies.
