Hi, like you I would also like to be a tatoo artist and I think the one sensible answer you have must be a good one, as I have written visited sooooo many studios in my area,(south west) and most didn't even reply. The ones that did said I wouldn't get paid and you need a wicked portfolio, which I am working on.
Good luck.
Jill.

Get your art work down to a T check out the stuff you like Greyscale,Tribal,Traditional,Japanese,Fantasy find what best suits your style.Don't be afraid to go it on your own.We all know cowboy artists out there but i would say it's better to be an individual first as long as your work is good you shouldn't have a problem.Do some research if you've been heavily inked already you should have some insight as to how other artists work.Don't be afraid to go it on your own.An apprenticeship is a really positive mark but there is nobody out there that can tell you who you are or how you feel.Just go with the flow practise on your mates for free then as you become better start to charge. Also look into moving overseas for your apprenticeship there are some amazing artists throughout the world.Good luck

my friend Kodi is one. Lots and lots and lots of art school... then, draw a portfolio of your work. You need to show your range.. so draw everything from fairies to dragons to tribals... Bring it into local studios, and beg beg beg. You wont get paid during your apprenticeship.. unless they really like you or have you doing other work.. so be prepared for that.
