My fiance and I invited my family over for lunch and dinner for xmas which was planned a few weeks before hand and was confirmed that was going to be definate. The day of xmas my family calls me and tells me that they will not be coming over because the parents are arguing. They expected me to drop off my brother and sister (whom slept over) back home and bring the rest of the gifts with them for them to open.

We spent a lot of money buying food and preparing for the day that will keep over 10 people entertained.

After dropping off my brother and sister and dropping off the other gifts for everyone else, I never got a call back saying thank you for the gifts or at least an apology that we went through so much preperation.

The bible says to be mad but do not sin.
So either be mad for 49 minutes and 37 seconds or be mad enough to wash the car really, really clean and then smile and hope their family crisis ends well.

Too much anger held too long is indeed self-destructive.

Grrrr...I'd be mad too. Let's look at this two ways. Does your family do stuff like this often? If this is something that they do, cancel or rearrange plans at the last minute not realizing that they are putting people out. If so, then you should have realized that you would be no exception to the rule, and next time don't set yourself up for that. On the other hand, if this is totally unlike them, perhaps there is something really big going on, and it's so big that they aren't even realizing how rude they were. Maybe you can donate the food to a shelter or something?

im so sorry, my feelings would be really crushed if this had happened to me. just try to put yourself in their situation even though people try to associate the holidays with nice family gatherings and harmony...we see year after year the holidays are really stressful. im sure they loved the presents and have made an effort to thank you. hope next holiday season is much better!

Don't stay mad, but do talk to your parents about this. Let them know their actions were unacceptable and you are needing an apology from both of them.

I would stay mad for a mad period of 49 minutes and 37 seconds.
That should do it.
