A question about converting an avi to an mpeg?

i have imtoo avimpeg converter but i havent tried it out yet i was wondering since im making the file smaller by converting it to mpeg if i would lose any quality?

You will, of course loose some quality, but not enough to notice. A bit like can you tell the difference between a mp3 at a bitrate of 192 from one at 128 kbps ?
