I don't hink there is an average. The worst eruptions that killed over 1,000 people were eons ago, like Pompeii and the one that erupted in Greece. The worst modern day eruption around here of course was Mt. St. Helens which killed 65 people. Supervolcanoes have the potential to kill the most and actually have an effect on the entire world like the one under Yellowstone. I imagine they don't calculate averages because the most catastrophic ones happened so long ago and there hasn't been anything like those since.
