I'm pretty shy and I notice that this happens a lot to me. I'll be working on something or won't make eye contact if someone is around or in the room with me. But then all of a sudden when I look up, I realize that the person had been staring at me or just observing me. It's mostly my friends or coworkers who do this, so I was just wondering why. And, why do they always have this huge grin on their face while they're doing this? It sort of makes me a little self-conscious...
Does anybody know why people do this?

As for the looking, perhaps they are trying to figure you out because you're a mystery. As for the grinning, either they're trying to be friendly, or they think you're good-looking! That's my guess.

It sounds like they think you're attractive. The grinning implies that they're trying to make a connection with you, and they're happy to be around you. If there are two people staring at you together and they're laughing, that's probably not good.
If you think the people looking at you are pretty good-looking, too, try smiling back at them flirtily. Who knows, you may end up with a new friend.

If you're experiemcing that, then you are undoubtedly a nice looking girl, in which case someone is interested in being our friend, or whatever. It's usually for that reason. If a shy girl is attractive to a guy, shy or not, he'll be interested in her. And he might eventually try to talk to her. This has been going on for over 300 years.

I guess it's because they feel you are a shy person and they want to know more about your reclusive habits. Just do something out of the ordinary to throw them off, or stare back at them and maybe they'll quit doing that.

Ugh, it's probably because they assume since you're shy you don't have any friends. I get this all the time. People are overly nice to me just because I don't talk much.
The worst is at my work! I don't eat lunch and instead prefer to read for the half hour we're given. So one lady who sits across the room from me and is always staring at me came over and asked me out to lunch. I politely declined. The next day she came over and sat at my desk and talked nonstop. It's not that I'm anti-social, I just really like to read!

people are sociable creatures... dont get upet about this, they are probobly just curious about you :)

so... just smile... they are probably just trying to figure you out!
this is most likely true because if you have friends or co-workers looking at you ... they have to spend alot of time with you, so yea, its not a bad thing.

Face it girl...you're gorgeous!...Or they could be zoning out while looking in your general direction. Why don't you ask them? Maybe they don't realize that they're consistantly looking at you.
