I have notice this in the English language. We tend to be more correct in English verbally than scriptic. Why is such an opposite?

In Spanish, writing sentences is easier, as well with speaking it (if you know the language)... Not trying to throw stones, just making an example.

In my experience, most people tend to write with as much grammatical precision and care for the language as they use when speaking.

This is true, regardless of the actual language.

One of the earlier responders has a probable point, though - "second language" classes tend to focus on the written word and pronounciation. This in turn would lend itself to having better grammar in writing than in speaking. Not to mention all the 'grammar' and 'punctuation' rules that crop up to make things tough on the written results.

This is not true of all people. You're talking about non-native speakers, right? Many of my ESL students write with more correct grammar than when they speak. I think it has a lot to do with what kind of exposure and practice the person has had with English.

Probably because it's easier to write or type in shorthand, and then there are emo and the wannabe thug kids who type completely illegibly because it's cool. I always write and type much more correctly than I speak.

That's because people are easily mistaken by words that are alike.

Commonly misused words:

Their vs. there vs. they're
your vs. you're
two vs. too vs. to
its vs. it's
etc...

It seems impossible that someone could use one of those words wrong but it happens. ALOT. It's kind of pathetic actually.... because it's not a mistake. It's just because they don't know the proper word to use.
