Sorry, but it's the harsh truth.
If someone purposely parks behind your driveway 1X or more they don't care and don't respect themselves and you. If you already asked them you are dealing with a curmedgeon.
Call the police or tow driver, as some people you just can't deal with.
Some people don't know the meaning of space and respect and this one sounds like one of them.

This is a tough question. First and foremost, the safety of you and your family is important. If continuing to ask this neighbor could provoke retaliation that could harm your family, bear that in mind before you do anything. If you feel safety is a concern, contact the police with your concerns and ask them what your options are.

If it's just an inconsiderate/forgetful person, make yourself aware of the laws of your state. In some states, most states that I know of, it's not lawful to block someone's driveway. There is supposed to be a number of feet left clear on each side of the driveway as well as leaving access to the driveway for emergency vehicles. In the state where I live people can get a steep ticket for being too close to a driveway and towed for blocking it. The homeowner has no say about that, the City just does it. Even the homeowner can be towed for blocking their own driveway.

Perhaps you can appeal to this person on these grounds: You need your driveway access clear so that you can get out in case of an emergency. What if someone in your family needs to get to the hospital right away? Does your driveway improve access for an emergency vehicle, such as an ambulance or firetruck? Does your neighbor blocking your driveway hinder emergency vehichle access? G-d forbid that you should ever suffer because of a delay in emergency care because your driveway was blocked. You could have good grounds for a lawsuit if blocking your driveway means that emergency help was hindered.

Look up stories on the internet where firefighters have been less-than-kind (and rightly so) about people blocking access for them getting to a fire or a hydrant. Or cases where paramedics where hindered by inconsiderate/selfish citizens and people died or suffered unnecessarily because of them.

Some people just need to know what's in it for them. In a case like that, you could tell the person, "I'm trying to help you out. If you block my driveway and I ever have to call an emergency vehicle and they can't to my driveway, you could be sued by the City for hindering an emergency services vehicle or you may come out and find that a fire truck rammed your car all the way up my driveway just to get to the fire. Is it really worth it so you don't have to walk a few more feet to your front door?"

Situations like this are never fun but they are good times for growth. Keep a positive attitude, a cool head, and be as informed about your options as possible. Be well and good luck!!

I am not sure what, behind my driveway means. Other people parking in the wrong spot can be a problem. I would take a chair and a book and sit down in the spot where they arent supposed to park. Just sit there and wait for them. It might be enough to embarass them not to do it again. You will have to be cool, and not get angry. Maybe you need some support people with you. I am a guy, I would just go sit and wait for them. And say, they cant park there. If they get riled. I would agree with them and leave and call the police.

Not sure what is considered "behind my driveway" Is the neighbor blocking your way? Impeding your means of egress? On your property? If that is the case, then I would contact the police and have the neighbors car towed.

If,however, the neighbor is parking on the roadway, or on his own property, then you are pretty much out of luck.

Parking issues are the biggest complaint between neighbors.

I am guessing that they are parking on the roadway, LEGALLY and slightly obstructing your direct path out of your driveway. If you could have them towed, I assume you would have done that.

Take some orange traffic cones and block off the space that they are parking in. People use cones, brooms, and all sorts of stuff in Chicago to save their parking space after they have cleared the snow away. If they complain about it, tell them to stop parking there. If they aren't breaking the law, then you just have a crappy driveway and you'll have to deal with it.

If you have already asked them & they have not respected your wishes, do this.
I would then,.. ask again & tell them if it happens again then you will contact the proper authorities. Of course you will ask politely. 2nd, write down dates & times you have asked your neighbor in case the law is involved. Keeping notes (dates & times) is your best defense. There is no reason why anybody can not act cival. In most states it is against the law to block a driveway or box someone in due to emergencies or other. Your neighbor should have the respect to respect your wishes. If you ask again & they do not abide then bring on the gloves.

If you have asked your neighbor na dthey still are parking and blocking access to your driveway? Call the police and report them. The police will tell your neighbor to move their vehicle and not to block it again. They may or may not give them a ticket, but if they block your driveway again? The police will have their vehicle towed away.

I would continue to ask a couple more times. if they keep parking there, i would just get their car towed. that's very rude and inconsiderate of your neighbors especially since you've been courteous enough to ask them to move it.

Have it towed. I had the same issue with a new neighbor last year and they havent done it since the day the tow truck almost left with their car.
