Hi,
I have owned a Volkswagen Jetta TDI (Turbo Diesel) for almost 2 years now. I would highly recommend the VW Jetta for a number of reasons. Considering you have basically unlimited resources, this car would be your best bet. Not only is it economical (mine gets about 42 mpg), it is built to last. It is mechanically sound, and it has a great look to it to. It is also one of the best cars in maintaining their value. I purchased mine 2 years old, and paid $14,500 and it's still worth about $14,000 and I've had it almost 2 years! You could get a brand new one which would be your best bet for about $24,000. If you should decide to go with the Jetta, I would definitely get the TDI (Turbo Diesel engine.) The diesels are good to go for about 400,000k miles or so. As long as you maintain it regularly (ie. oil changes, tune ups, timing belt, water pump etc.) then this car would definitely last you way more than just a couple of years. Check out Kelly Blue Book for pricing values of the Jetta and take a look on Ebay as well. You could probably get a brand new one there for way below retail. Hope this helps!
