250 Million Christians Will Be Persecuted in 2007

250 million Christians worldwide will face persecution in 2007, simply for following Jesus Christ, according to persecution watchdog, Release International. In particular it was found that persecution is growing the fastest in the Muslim world.

Release has found that most persecution takes place in four distinct ‘zones’: those of Islam, Communism, Hinduism and Buddhism. But persecution is growing fastest of all in the Muslim world.

Governments in even moderate Muslim countries often fail to safeguard the rights of their Christian minorities, explains RI. Abuses suffered by Christians include kidnapping, forced conversion, imprisonment, church destruction, torture, rape and execution.

One of the world’s worst abusers of religious freedom is Saudi Arabia, guardian of Islam’s holiest sites Mecca and Medina. Saudi Arabia forbids all other religions. A Muslim found ‘guilty’ of converting to Christianity could face the death...

Probably the funniest arguement from people who don't think Christians are persecuted is attacking the source as being Christian.

Remember the medieval Crusades, and the following rule:

What goes around comes around.

Yes. People always react, sometimes violently, when they see that the others are right. Saudi Arabia surely does forbid all other religions but it is in Afghanistan that any Muslim found guilty of converting faces death. It is not the religion but the followers that matter. Do not blame a particular religion for what happens. I agree with Christian Hedonist though I absolutely do not agree with "Hedonism"

Yes they are and will continue to be. Why because we are in an era where its wrong to speak out about being a christian ( just so you know im not christian or any faith cos i dont believe in God). With all the problems with the muslim minority (terrorists etc)causing uproar at times, combined by the general muslim masses standing up and making their own views heard whether by talking or at times rioting etc it seems to be politically incorrect to the point that standing up to be heard as a christian is seen as racist!! What is needed is a society that allows all faiths to be heard peacfully before others take the muslim lead and use violence etc to get heard.

Sorry if ive offended anyone but as a non believer this is how i percieve it and wish everyone would just live in peace!

Chritians are persecuted in muslim worldwide places and a few communist worldwide places. i think of those figures may well be an exageration inspite of the shown fact that. even inspite of the shown fact that right here interior the US it somewhat is often the christians doing the persecuting of non christians expecially pagans. i will combat to be sure all and sundry Christian and muslim and the different faith has the nicely suited to beleive the way they experience is sturdy for them, yet i will additionally combat to have a similar rights as Christians. non secular freedom would desire to be basically that freedom to be the religion you think of is ultimate even whether it somewhat is pagan.

There will be persecution of many religions, not just Christianity, and not near the "250 million" you claim (it's amazing how Christians are always claiming to be persecuted). And why should they care, many have attempted to persecute non-Christians in this country. Like someone posted above, "What goes around, comes around."

Yes. Being that I work at A Mission Board, and associated with the IMB (International Mission Board) I respond yes. The News does not report the amount or the incidents of persecution that actually place around the world. But, even here in the US, it is occurring, just at a lower degree, and stage.

Shows the true heart of other religions. For a truth update go to persecution.org. And spare me the reply of the crusades, they were not done by "the church". But a man plagued hierarchy called the Roman Catholic Church.

Lets face it they deserve to be persecuted.

Anyone who believes in that pile of primitive garbage needs their head examined.

However, don't get me wrong. I'm not discriminating here. As far as I and all educated people are concerned you religious people are all as bad as one another, whether you are christians, muslims or devil worshippers.

Try reading Richard Dawkin's excellent book The God Delusion. It is to the 21st century what the bible was to the dark ages.

However, be warned. Its probably a bit too intellectual for you simple religious folk!!

I just wish that christians would learn from their persecution and not try to engage in the same persecution dynamics in countries like the U.S. Christians are responsible for persecuting many many people in the U.S. with their rejection of basic human rights (same-sex rights, reproductive choice), helpful medical research (stem-cell research), basic science and education (evolution), and the simple principles of democracy and freedom to practice any religion (by supporting theocratic agendas and presenting mechanisms meant to support religious freedom as being christian persecution).

Yes I believe Christians are persecuted around the World.

In addition to what you mention in the Middle East ... Christianity is facing persecution in communist countries like Viet Nam. Vietnamese Men are going to the Philippians’ to become priests and returning to Vietnam and secretly ministering to the Vietmenese --- with the risk of being executed for such action.

In South America, a Bishop of the Catholic Church has denounced Christianity, and he is persecuting those who will not follow him as High Priest.

Even in America the ACLU is persecuting against Christianity. Banning Jesus from Christmas ... removing Crosses from national graves ... and taking "God" out of the Ten Commandments --- money --- and school.

So, yeah, there is tons of persecution.
