I definitely agree with you Mayhem I... There is nothing I hate more than seeing people open the door for others, and the person doesn't thank them... Or seeing a person go up to a cashier expecting to receive good customer service while they are yapping away on their cell phone. Then the same people get upset when you don't treat them with the up most respect...

You are absolutely right. Not only do people have forgotten about good manners, they have forgotten about how to smile, how to laugh, and respect themselves and therefore others privacy. The worst thing among bad manners to me is that use of the cell phone regardless of where the person is, even at the theater, in the public transit, on the street, etc... There is no end to it! People are really rude to the elderly when they slow down their rushing ways! A friend of mine got pushed into a stairway in the subway by a woman who was rushing and talking on her cell phone at the same time. Result : my friend who is 80 years old fell and broke a leg in three places! Doctors had to put a piece of metal and she was weeks in the hospital.
When I see those people talking on their cell phones loud enough to broadcast their private life; I could SCREAM !!!! But I don't of course. I would be the one who would look like an old cranky person.

I dont think they have forgotten but pop-culture lends to not respecting. I am so tired of peopel bumping to into me, talking through movies and just being over all rude just because they can. I always say that the phrase excuse me has been removed from the english language...and way too many point less words have been added

We often mimic what we see & we often mimic what we hear.
Everyday communication becomes like static in our ears and our heads. That static remains in our minds and we are more apt to act like whom ever we spend time with the most or where we spend the most time in our day. People may have good hearts but awful manners. I believe the old saying goes something like this:
"You are who you hang around with..."
There is an incredible amount of technology out there - but it has not helped our manners or mannerisms.

I completely agree, people need to be nicer like saying please and thank you i am working on that with my 4 and 6 yr old niece and my 12 yr old stepdaughter, she thinks she can just demand and get what she wants, i make her say please before i do anything for her and i show her the same respect. Also talking on your cell while your checking out or trying to get help at a retail store then customers expect you to stand and wait on them to finish their call. I work in retail btw.

I think most know what manners are, but they think it doesn't apply to them. They think its a "sissy" thing to show kindness and proper respect. They would not use the word "sissy" though, they would probably say "gay".
It seems that anything that requires consideration of others is viewed like that. Instead of being genuine, caring individuals in society, they prefer to go along with the arrogant, coldness the have locked themselves in. Selfishness rules in their world.

No. It isn't they have forgotten. They don't want to use manners, orwere never taught by their parents, or just feel no need to. But I think most of it is lack of manners because no one was there to instruct them.
But when it comes to ordering take-out they say:
Gimme da burger, drink, lemme have dis and supersize it, too.
So easy to say, and low as you can go.

You're right, the biggest shame of the lack of good manners is the fact they cost nothing to have!

yes. My twelve year old nephew just came to live with me after being raised by my sister. She neglected to teach him about manners. It makes me appreciate that my four children have been taught to practice good manners since they were born.
