I had the flu about 3 weeks ago and had swollen tonsils and a really sore throat along with it. Now and again i think my throat is getting better and the pain and swolleness comes back! It's really really dry and sore to swallow! Is this normal? I've had tonsillitis before but there is no white stuff on them so it's not that is it?
I've also been in smokey pubs recently but i dont smoke... could this be a reason?

Any sore throat of such long duration warrants a trip to the doctor. If you have already seen a doctor and still have a sore throat after this length of time, your antibiotic is either ineffective or you have a new undiagnosed disease process going on. You can have a sore throat without having strep (usually when you see white exudate) or tonsilitis. Smoking can aggravate a sore throat but, unless you are in the pubs 24 hours a day 7 days a week, you should have had relief from the soreness. Please see your doctor for diagnosis and treatment.
