About 2 months ago i started to self harm.
Its on my arms.
I try and hide it and so far have succeeded.
But this term at school we have swimming.
Everyones going to see my cuts.
Please dont just tell me stop.
It wont help. It wont make the scars that are there already go away.
So my question is how can i get round this situation.
How can i hide the cuts.
Please help.
Thank You.
x.

first of all you should seriously seek help with not doing it any more. believe I know it's not easy to stop but it can be done (last time I did was on July 25, 2005 so I know what I'm talking about)
as far as hiding the scars there are creams that you can get over the counter to help but they tend to be a tad pricey.
it's been my experience though that most people won't notice the scars (or if they do they don't say anything about them)
if you get asked just politely tell them it's nothing they need to worry about.
it's not easy but please try to get some help with stopping. I'm here if you'd like to talk.

There are some cosmetics that can stay on after getting wet. You should consult someone at a beauty counter at the mall. They've got schooling knowledge that could help. If your cuts have already healed then products like neosporin won't help. You can go to a pharmacy and ask about scar reducing creams. They can help some but not completely.
And for the answer you don't want to hear: If they don't go away completely, you have to accept that they are there and are a part of you. They don't have to make you feel bad about yourself. You can be strong and you'll get over whatever it is that makes you want to hurt yourself. When that happens, you'll accept who you are, what you've done, and use all that to make yourself stronger.
Mine are pretty noticable on my forearms and have been there a long time. Nobody's asked me about them but if they do, i'll tell them.
You dont have to be embarassed about anything. There are always people who want to help. The hardest part is asking for it.
Good luck. You will be just fine

Hi
If all u wanna do is to hide the scars on your hand a plastic surgeon can get the job done!!!!!, but what about the scars which are internal?? I feel you should get the internal scars healed first. Consult a good psychiatrist or your family doc.

Take care

First thing is to get Neosporin and apply it to all open and recently healed cuts. You need to apply it everyday until the skin is smooth. Neosporin actually reduces scars. Next you need to consider an alternative to self harm, such as professional tattoos or body piercing. You sound underage so you would have to get your parents involved. Last and maybe most important you should pray to God to take away these feelings from you. He will help you, if you ask Him.

ace bandages and say you have wrist problems that require you to have compression at all times, like carpal tunnel, lots of people have it and your teachers and school mates will leave you alone about it. Cut somewhere else next time though b/c when you do finally get out of thise phase, the scars are REALLY embarrassing, I know from personal experience, its hard trying to explain to people what they are from.

You need to think longer term than swimming! Cutting is really addictive and can lead to cutting in more areas and cutting deeper. I am a mental health case manager and have worked in mental health for ~20 years....please seek professional help!
