we were both previously married and recently got divorced (due to our exes making us wait as long as possible) we wanted to have a fall wedding but since the divorces were finalized just recently we just went to the jp and got married - we would still like to have a little wedding and reception for family and friends how would we go about this?

you can still do it, just make plans as usual, or if you just want to have a reception, set it up, get a cake, and invite your close friends and family.

I was thinking about doing the same thing..getting married @ JP and then have a reception later...i believe that after u get the marraige license it expires or some sort of thing but when u do decide to have that wedding all u have to do is go back and get another one and have the wedding within the 60 or 90 days before expiration...something like that check with your JP..i read that in a web site somewhere...good luck

Just schedule it.
If people ask you lots of questions about it, explain how you're following a European tradition.

In Belgium (where my parents were wed) the dual wedding is a de-facto standard.
You hold the JP wedding for the legal sense, but it's not recognized by the public until it's gone through a church wedding.

Explain how you didn't get to have everyone with you at the JP wedding that you wanted around to help you celebrate your special day. You're doing this because you want to include everyone.

you can absolutely do this. i am getting married on friday by the jp, and once we are married and can afford a wedding and/or reception, we will do that.

all you need to do is plan and make arrangements just as you would if you were doing it wedding style the first time. however,
there is just no need to go through the marriage certificate part of it (legal papers) twice.

this is a free world. do what makes you happy and comfortable!

congratulations!

This is more common than you might think. I knew a couple that got married in a hospital because one was ill at the time and family could only be in town then, so they did it that way, but then later did the nuptials again in a church.

Talk to a pastor, explain the situation and go from there. I suspect you can probably find clergy who have been in situations like this before and they can advise you on the specifics.

I would just reccomend billing it as a "Celebration of your union" instead of a "wedding" per say. You have every right to celebrate youre just going about it in a different way.

Well, you are already married, so you can't do that again. What you had for your ceremony is what it was and you have to be content with that. You can have a party for your close friends and family, though.
