She lives with her dad and her step mom sometimes throws gifts our side of the family sends out. We wait until we have her visiting us, to give her presents, but this is her 16th birthday (which is special). I figured that if I send a check, there is no money lost if she throws it out. If I buy a gift card or send a gift and she throws it out before my niece gets it... well, that is money down the drain. Wanted to send an amount that is decent... so how much would be nice (and correct)?

I'm guessing "our side" is the ex's side of the family. If not step-mom has ISSUES. Send a card letting her know that the next time you see her you have a gift for her. Call and back it up. Next time you see her make good on the promise. Does she know what her step-mom does? If so, she'll understand. If not, it's not your place to tell her. Just say you're not comfortable sending a check through the mail, but would like to give her something. Sweet 16 is special, getting the gift is even more so. If there's a chance to go to the party or visit her go for it. Good luck!

Created a book get a photo album the one that peel back put picture of the two of you in it and then do and if you were here I would take you on a limo ride put in a pic of a limo then take him on a cruise, to a concert ,be exaggerate, photo copy picture of money and say you wish you could give him this much, find a picture of his dream car and give it to him think you got the picture and then put 30 to 50 dollars on the last page Good Luck have fun with it and make the cover to fit his personality

I would say about $50. If she has her own bank account it might be better to just get the numbers from her and send it that way. Or western union or something like that as long as she has a picture ID or something.

$50 to $100 dollars would be nice. Maybe address it to her dad or send it to her dads workplace and ask him to give it to her. She should be ashamed of herself for doing that. Maybe she is jealous of you and your family. Sounds like it to me. Good luck!!

It depends on what you can afford and if she will appreciate it anyway. If the kid is appreciative of what she gets I would send more, if she thinks that it is owed to her I would send less.
