Date of Birth - otherwise he'll look back in a few years at the date of his first birthday and will think "What the ?!"

it's a boy, what is a boy going to do with a dinner set??? Why not buy him a toy fire truck or a ball.

Sorry, I'm a firm believer of giving gifts to a small child that are practical, a china dinner set for a 1 yr old is not preactical, he can't play with it..there would be no enjoyment.

Why would you buy a 1 year old china? How much fun is that? I would buy him something he can enjoy for his first birthday, china might be a nice gift for when he gets married.

have you ever tried to find out in your local paper what happened on the day of his birth....when my grandson was born i kept the newspaper of that day...you could look up on the internet about archives, and i think you get a download of that paper and what happened that day, i don't know how much thi will cost but it's a nice keepsake....but if your getting a plate, a nice calligraphy design with the time, date, day, month year will be nice...good luck

I would say that actual birthday b/c that is his special day. He will think that in the future also. That is a sweet present and he could pass down to his kiddos too.

Birth date - although ideally you should have thought of this last year, when he was born, which would have made it a bit more special.

His actual birth date will have more relevance to him than his first birthday.

What do his parents think and have you discussed it with them.

Whatever the decision, that is a very nice gesture.
