I just did the same thing starting last December. After a few years of sitting in a desk and not exercising, I decided to lose weight and get in shape. I lost twenty-five lbs and played football last Spring.

I started out five minutes a day & built up from there. There are a lot of things you can do. Half (or even quarter) pushups, basic yoga, do warmups (stretching, jumping jacks, etc) hang on a chin up bar (for a few seconds your tendons etc are not strong so don't over do it)
run in place, skip rope, etc.

One problem I developed early on (and ignored
by simply taping & icing later) was injuring the tendons underneath both feet. I was overweight, overdoing the exercise & not taking days off to rest. By alternating upper and lower bodies, you can work out six days a week.

After a few months I was able to increase the pushups, added light weight lifting and increased the workouts. Soon your workouts can become intense. Remember you want to avoid injuries-so gradually increase the workouts.

The key is to reward yourself, have fun, cross train, change the workout, track your progress (as in number of pushups or photograph yourself every month) and stay movtivated.

Good luck!

depends what kind of athelete you want to become,
anything is possible, you would have to have some rare talent to work with. you might be able to become a personal trainer, but a pro basketball player, probably not.
