i found a baby bird this morning.. i don't know what species it is. it's the size of a baseball. my best guess is that it's possibly a bird of prey. It has a very unusual beak. it's real fussy and it's grey with a little bit of yellow feathers. it looks like it's going to be a big bird. does anybody have an idea what kind of bird might it be??

Call a rehabilitation center/police./ department of natural resources right away. If it is a bird of prey, it is illegal federally to keep them w/o a permit- up to 5 yrs jail time and 10,000 fine.
If it is just a pigeon or parrot of some type- the rehab center or a humane society could correctly identify it and if you can keep it or not- they can help tell you what to feed it.
Beaks: http://www.nhm.org/birds/guide/pg009.html
there is a basic guide to find out what type of bird you have, though species is up for grabs. Could be a falcon type- I heard peregrines are doing will in LA on building ledges, or it could be a seagull, pretty much anything.

I agree with BVC. Mating seasons for birds in North America is over and shouldnt start back up until March. Where are you located?
Depending on the bird you should be able to go to any feed store or your local pet store and get baby bird food. Hand feedings can be hard to do, and they might even allow you to bring the bird and they can show you how to do it.
I would love to see a pic. I highly doubt it is an African Grey, unless you are in Africa.

Where are you located? I believe that the mating season and egg laying season for birds is over, at least in North America. I might be wrong, but I don't ever remember seeing baby birds born in the winter.
Maybe you can post a picture?

Unfortunately baby birds look very different than the adults. Weird to see a baby this early, I guess depends where you are. I would contact local animal shelter, or another expert that can take care of it.
Good luck.
