The prefix "tri" means 3.
What should be noted, is the triceps is only *one* muscle (per arm), but it has three "heads". This means, there is one muscle "belly" then it divides into three, with three tendons running off it to join to bony structures.
Similarly, biceps brachii is one muscle, with two "heads" to connect it to the skeleton.
