My fiance and I are having a hawaiian themed wedding. We would like our guests to come in nice hawaiian attire, but we don't want jeans and t-shirts. I am afraid if I put "casual" on the invitation, that's what we'll end up with. How can I tell my guests that although it's not black-tie, it's not jeans and t-shirts either. (Hawaiian shirts and dresses or sarongs would be acceptable.)

I did this (we had a tropical island theme, so we incorporated stuff from the Caribbean as well as Hawaii) and I called it Caribbean Casual attire. I also went in to further detail about that on my wedding website, which I included the address for in my invite inserts.

If anyone is confused, they'll ask you. But my guests were able to interpret on their own that khakis and sundresses were appropriate. I had to convince them all that Hawaiian shirts were okay too! Believe me, no one will show up under dressed.

Yeah. You sorta answered your question. Just put on the invitation that you don't want jeans or t-shirts. Or use the hawaiian shirts and dresses/sarongs that you mentioned at the end as an example. The only thing I would say is to word it so that it doesn't seem rude, but it's your wedding.

Tell them "No jeans and T-shirts" Hawaiian casual or Hawaiian dressy, however you want to put it, and give an example of what you want. Just like you did in your question. Good Job.

Thank you for asking this!!! I'm having the same themed wedding at a country club. They said ok (after some badgering) to hawaiian attire, only if the guests don't wear jeans and t-shirts. I guess, after reading this, I'd go with, "Please feel free to wear Hawaiian-style clothes, no jeans or T-shirts please~ Mahalo!"

it isn't suitable because it isn't in Viet Nam. If the marriage is interior the U. S., then you truly opt to placed on classic American gown. under no circumstances white and under no circumstances something too flashy or too ethnic. something seen as a cocktail gown will be adequate. bypass into any branch save, ask the clerk that can help you you with an outfit for a wedding ceremony.

You can ask them to come in their "Hawaiian Best". I'm not sure how to elaborate on that, but I think that would suggest a little dressier.
