Your medical school makes no difference. You don't "major" in anything during med school - we all get pretty much the same education, except for a few elective rotations in the last year.
Your residency is where you specialize. The best thing you can do is to do EXTREMELY well in med school, take surgical electives and act like one of the guys. Seriously, surgery is rough, and your b*lls have to be bigger than your classmates' (even if you don't actually have any). Be aggressive and get to know the CT surgeons at your med school so that you can get good recommendations.
You'll have to do a full surgical residency first, because CT surgery is a subspecialty. You're looking at a VERY long road ahead of you (4 years of med school plus 7-10 years of residency)

Stanford has one of the best cardiothoracic surgery schools in the country. Another good school is NYU.
