Did people used to give these out to people if they were dating? I think I've heard it used in that reference before.

No,I was an avid sidewalk skater in Memphis Tenn. where we had great sidewalks and driveways to skate on.The skates were fitted on the shoes that you chose to wear and you had to adjust them from time to time to keep them on .You had to have your "Skate Key" to make the adjustments.Never heard of any one giving their skate key away,then you couldn't adjust your skates.These skates were the weirdest things you have ever seen I collect antiques and I have a pair now complete with a key.LOL
