Why is it that everywhere I turn I hear something like,''Oh,well, they are not *real* Christians".....do you honestly think you have the power to decide whether someone is a Christian or not?

There was a very similar question a couple of days ago, and many of the answers (including mine [vote for me!]) were about the same as your details.

I'm not sure anyone should be surprised by the "real" statements people make, though. It seems like perfectly normal human behavior for someone to adopt a belief or religion, then expect their view of it to be THE VIEW of it. I've heard of "Real" Christians, "Real" Republicans, "Real" Star Trek fans, etc.

Personally, I think this kind of thinking is something to try to avoid, but accept that we can't always resist and shouldn't judge others for indulging in.

The claim that someone isn't a "real" Christian only implies that a person doesn't believe or behave in the manner that one thinks another "ought" to believe or behave. It means that two presumed Christians are at odds over how one should believe or behave, and a judgement is being made of the other.

When I explain my treatment at the hands of "Christians", I'm told that those aren't representative of "real" Christians, so I should then trust Christ because "real" Christians would treat me better.

I've yet to meet these "real" Christians at my doorstep.

Yes. A real Christian is clearly defined. Jesus says that going to church does not make a person religious, but following Him does make someone a christian. A real Christian follows Jesus and His words.

Being a Christian means that you are a follower of Christ. No it is not okay to judge someones heart, if they believe in Jesus or not, but if you proclaim to be a Christian, and have the faith, but your actions do not line up to your faith, then you should get that straightened out before you go around proclaiming Christ.

No. I can't say I have the power to do that.

The difference between a real and a fake christian is the same as the difference between true happiness and its imitations. Doing things by your own reasons is true happiness, doing things by another person's reasons is false happiness.

Those are usually the people that have a "holier than thou" attitude. They think they're the ones who will be in God's grace and who Jesus will welcome into heaven. Yet, they are usually the most judgemental, hypocrites, and sinners than those they looked down upon. They think they will inherit God's earth. Most likely they won't. In the bible it says that those persecuted and meek will "inherit the earth". The only one who has the final say about our sins is God, for a person to assume the position of God that is blasphemy.

Matthew 7:21
"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

John 8:31-33
To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are REALLY my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

John 3:5
Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.

There is difference between professing Christians and real Christians, unfortunately professing Christians do not know that difference.

You are right, we can only try to be the best Christian we can, it is not up to other to decide if you are a Christian or not.
