He will open the door and come out looking and crying for us or we can stand on the other side for a few minutes letting him think we've left and I can tell that he will not stay. Help

Why do they just let him walk out? In the nursery and toddlers rooms at my church, they keep a baby gate in the doorway so little ones won't escape. If he thinks that opening a door and crying at you will get him what he wants, he'll do it. Drop him off, then go to service. He needs to learn that he'll be ok without you and that you'll come back. If not now, it will be that much harder in Kindergarten!

Maybe he's just not ready? 3 sounds a bit young. At my church we have a nursery for pre-school kids, but we don't start formal religious education until they're in Kindergarten.

I don't want this to sound rude,
but come on he's only 3 years old
- give the little guy a break here!

What is it EXACTLY are you trying to accomplish
by locking him up in a room with strangers
who obviously DO NOT know how to deal well with toddlers?

He definitely doesn't wanna be there,
but you are forcing him to . . . WHY?

Stay in one or two or three of his classes, let him notice how fun it is, and maybe he will stay. If not, start to help teach in his class, and he will be wit you, and learning about the great lord. it's just a phase.

Tell him that he needs to stay in his own class so that Mommy knows where to find him when it's time to go, otherwise you won't know where to look for him.
