The T-Bone is cut from the center of the short loin. To be classified as a T-Bone, the tenderlion must measure at least half an inch across. The Porterhouse is cut from the center of the short loin. To be classified as a Porterhouse, the tenderloin must be at least one and a quarter inches across the center. A T-Bone steak looks like two steaks in one. On one side you have the bone strip loin, and on the other a nice piece of fillet mignon. A T-Bone is usually thinner than a Porterhouse. It has a smaller section of fillet attached, and is usually less tender than a Porterhouse. A Porterhouse has a top loin and tenderloin. It is thicker than a T-Bone. It also has less bone and has more marbling on its surface

these are steaks cut from the "loin". the 3 steak cuts are wing, t-bone and porterhouse. the lower portion of each cut contains the tenderloin or "filet mignon". The wing cut (which is the nearest to the rib) contains virtually no tenderloin. At the other end of the loin (next to the sirloin) is the porterhouse which contains the largest piece of tenderloin. The t-bone comes from the middle of the loin which has a smaller piece of tenderloin attached.

A porterhouse steak is basically a T-bone cut a little further down to include some of the fillet or tenderloin.
