Yia = hi/bye (informal/casual)
Yia sou = hello/bye (formal singular)
Yia sas = hello/bye (formal plural)

*Yia (γεια) means both hello and bye in Greek. It depends whether you're coming or going. It's from the Ancient Greek word iyia (υγεία) which means health, as in Ancient Greece people would wish each other "good health" when meeting each other or when leaving.

"Yasoo " is a form of hello in Greek....it varies with them, just as it varies with us, hi, hey, etc.

Also, for those that have responded with kalimera...that is actually good morning....but it is typical to hear Yasoo, Kalimera, Ti Kanis or Ti Kanetay...."hello, good morning, how are you... Or they also just ask....Kala Esay? Are you good?

I am not sure of the spelling but it is pronounced "T-con-niece."

I have a friend from Greece and if you say that to a Greek person he or she will respond kindly.
