Yes, I do think that women should become police officers. I had a self-defense instructor that maintained women were better fighters than men if they are trained properly. They have a lower center of gravity that helps them maintain their balance better. If a woman is taught to fight with her legs, then she can overpower the average man. I used to leg wrestle with my brothers...both serious weight lifters...they could never win.
And to top it all off (jokewise), how many men are brave enough to mess with a woman on PMS?

Well Tracey, being a Police Officer is a tough demanding and dangerous career. Especially for women the competition is fierce. Living in a post 911 world a lot of agencies have changed or raised their standards. I'm not here to paint a grim picture for you but just trying to put things into perspective for you. I myself am a Federal Law Enforcement Officer. I have seen some very good female officers out there. So if it is a dream only you can make it a reality.

I have been a police officer for eleven years, all of them on the road on general patrol. I'm not that big but my attitude/determination is six feet tall and 220lbs. I do just as well as the male officers. There will always be someone who is bigger than you (male or female). I just have to work smarter and safer than a man who is large. I am also a mother and a darn good one at that (well, at least as good teacher mothers or nurse mothers or secretary mothers or cleaning mothers or unemployed mothers etc...). Why wouldn't female officers make good mothers?
You are obviously the kind of person that does not realize that policing is a JOB and that there are real people under the uniform that do real things, like grocery shopping, going to kid's soccer games, playing with kids in the yard, paying bills, watching tv, drinking beer in the back yard while barbecuing burgers etc. When we get home from work we are no different than anyone else in you community.

What a horrible question to ask. The PC answer is "of course" a woman can do anything a man can do. The real answer is that the position should be filled with somebody that can do the job well, no matter what the gender.
I personally don't think that a lot of women (just as a lot of men) should be cops or firemen. When somebody elses life depends on you being able to handle a 250 lb drunk or carry a 250 lb person from a burning building, the 5'2", 110 lb person just can't do it effectively. Also there is the intimidation factor. I'm 6'3" and weigh in at 280. I have learned from experience that my size gives me a huge advantage most of the time when it comes to people wanting to start something.

women do make good police officers, physical strength is a very small part of the job, women possess many other qualities. I'm a prison officer in the UK and i work along side women officers daily, they are as confident as male officers and bring a calming manner and an air of confidence which is second to none, i genuinely feel the sex of a law enforcement officer is unimportant.

No. I know some police officers who will agree. I've heard more than once where women officers often escalate a volatile situation by trying to show the suspect(s) that she is in charge. Male officers will back off a bit to let the situation cool down.

either 110 lbs or 250 lbs, either way how could they
do there job physically being so petite or to fat !!!!! it's not
all about the books, I mean A real officer get's out there

Most police men would tell you that often times female officers are much better at managing situations of domestic violence (which makes up the majority of calls). Women have a much better method and style of "talking down" hostile persons. They are a definite asset to any police force. However, that doesn't mean that they should be patrolling alone. I would say that female officers are smart to always approach every situation with guaranteed backup. But that's probably true for any cop, regardless of gender.

I am going to remain calm.... lolol. I have been a cop for 8 years. My child is 8 years old. Do the math. I have been told by countless people that the reason they didn't fight or agreed to an interview was because I wasn't a "stereotypical cop." Because I am a mother I know how to deal with kids. Yes I have been fought but I fought back! I teach ground fighting and Defensive Tactics. A Lot of my job is mental. The best weapon I have is my mouth. I pride myself in being able to listen and talk to people to help them resolve their issues. Am I strong? Oh yeah. Tough? Hell yeah, but nothing is more important to me than going home to my child everyday and making sure I try to make the world a little safer for her.

Of course they are. What kind of question is that? What do YOU think it means to be a police officer? Do you have any idea what the work is like?
I am assuming you are a girl so I am surprised you would even post this question.
