In northern Michigan use spoons or Mepps spinners! If your after quantity instead of quality, these will produce some action.

There are two lures that i can think of that would work very well in this situation. The first is a large jointed rapala as Sharon has said. There are two wonderful colors to use it dirty water.Perch color and fire tiger. You dont have to worry if this place has perch in it or not, it will still catch plenty of northerns. The second is a large spinnerbait. Use on with gold blades and it would be better to get on with 2 or 3 blades, since it is staind water. You will find the biggins in the deeper water or near springs. The small ones will be hear to but the sometimes wander up in the shallower water. Other lures you probably should try are: 1. Muskie jigs: Get yourself some muskie sized jigs and add a matching 5 or 6 inch grub to it. I learned this excellent tip off of in-fisherman tv. This lure choice will most likely give you the best chance to get the trophy northern pike. 2. Bass Jigs: Get yourself some bass jigs if you dont have any already and add a soft plastic leech or goby as a trailor. Another excellent tip from in-fisherman tv. I cant garentee these last two lures will work great but the are worth a try. Cast these into the deep water. good luck!

Before this last year I would have thought I had the perfect answer and answered like my grandad... Red/White Daredevil.
This last Summer here in Maine yielded some very exciting results with a black rubber worm with a curly yellow tail on an 1/8 oz weedless jig head. Cast and retrieved through the weeds.
My daughter also had some great results with a sparkly soft plastic bait fish just rigged on a hook.. No name a generic walmart type.
Prior to this last year I have relied on spinners and such for Pike, many folks still do.
An old timer secret for these big guys is a good strip of salt pork skipped at or on top of the water surface. It can take some work to get a 1/0 hook through the skin, but worth while. i use salt water hooks for this so the pork doesn't rust out the hook. When done fishing don't store the hook with your other fresh water gear either.

Northerns usually go deep in the summer so you should use a deep diving crankbait or a topwater lure like a side to side stickbait, stickbaits work the best out of all topwater lures for getting fish when they are deep. But the best bait of all that will catch fish all season is the banjo minnow but it costs $30 for the kit. Fish just off a weed bed in about 10 or 15 feet of water.
Good Luck and happy fishing! ! ! ! !

I've found mostly that here in MI pike seem to slow down during the hot summer months. Timing and location are the most important factors in catching them. I've never caught one in full sun on a hot summer day, but I've had more luck in the cooler mornings and evenings, and some luck on cloudy/rainy days.
Also, pike don't like too warm of water, so in the summer they will usually go deeper. Because of thier slower mood, and holding deep, I like to use a 6" or bigger sucker minnow under a bobber.
That being said, I've also caught a lot of them on bass lures (jig and pig, rubber worms, crankbaits, etc) while targeting the bucketmouths.

Its fishing, good luck.

Rapalla's, They make many styles that represent different kinds of fish, so if you know what type of fish the Pike are feeding on get a Rapalla thats looks like it, here in Montana the Rapalla's that look like Perch work well.

summer season for northerns.
well, in the summer time, i go for monstous smallmouth and largermouth in a nearby river using a small white spinnerbait, but northern are what i end up catching. in a lake, i go for panfish using small crappies jigs and end up catching northerns. i suggest using a medium size white jig with a red-head hook (switch from white to yellow jig) and if this doesnt work try a medium size white-yellow spinnerbait (so line wont snap when northern strike) or go with a roster tail/spoon, it alway works for me.
remember to reel your lures fast or the northern will cut your line.
hope this help. good luck!
