No, this question is not inappropriate for Yahoo Answers. I checked. The guidelines state that it is inappropriate to GLORIFY suicide or to threaten harm to oneself or others, not to mention it seriously and ask for help. DUH.
I have been and sometimes still am suicidal; in my mind, it's a line that--once it is crossed--cannot be recrossed. It may, in other words, be something that you will always have to deal with as part of who your are and your life experience. Or, you may have to do a lot of self-talk to get yourself out of the habit, because that is what suicidal thoughts are, a habit that needs to be broken.
It's like an addiction, once you indulge, you can't seem to escape.
When I have those feelings, I try to work out more, sometimes take some time off to regroup, go out alone to think, go out with friends more, talk to friends, talk to counselors, do yoga, buy some new clothes, get my hair done, make life changes, (like going back to school) change my environment (painting a room in the house) etc.
You really have to change it up: change is what stimulates life. You have to feel like you have something to live for, so live life, and you won't feel like you have to end it.

I've dealt with depression for 30 yrs. and have had times of being suicidal. What I found worked the best in that situation was to tell somebody(someone you trust) and make sure I wasn't on my own.

Hi Kacey. Yes, I have tried and wasn't successful. I too am taking medication now. I still have good days and bad days. On the bad days, I just try to talk my self through it. Try to think of things you might look forward to.
It does get better though, the medications sometime take time to kick in. Just try to take one day at a time. I totally understand.
Many Hugs

I tried suicide several times.
After I kept being found (even though I went into dense bushland).
I decided that if so many people wanted me alive, then I'd better grow up and take responsibility for myself.
Sometimes the thought still goes through my mind but now I count my blessings and get on with life.

I GOT IN TO THINK I LIKE TO DO LIKE HELPING PEOPLE ON HERE OR TRYING TO FIND THING THAT MAKE ME FEEL LIKE I'VE DONE SOMETHING GOOD FOR SOMETHING ANDI GOT A DOG. HAVING SOMETHING THAT LOVES ME EVEN WHEN I LOOK AND FEEL LIKE **** IS RELLY GOOD FOR ME. SOMETIME I WALK OUTSIDE IF IT IS RAINING AND JUST WATCH IT AND MELL IT. BUT YOU HAVE TO FIND SOMETHING THAT MAKE PEACE INSIDE OF YOU AND I DON'T MEAN JUST A LITTLE INSIDE I MEAN THAT DEEP INSIDE WHERE THAT THOUGHT OF DEATH IS. IT MIGHT BE HARD TO FIND BUT IT'S THEIR JUST KEEP LOOKING AND IT MIGHT EVEN BE SOMETHING YOU'VE NEVER DONE BUT DON'T BE AFARAD NEW IS GOOD SOMETIME BECAUSE IT HELP TO FIND OUT WHO YOU REALLY ARE AND WHAT YOU REALLY LIKE. BECAUSE MOST LIKE US DON'T KNOW WHO WE REALLY ARE ANYWAY. BUT WHO THEY WANTED
