No time soon. Mr. Rumsfeld wanted to do Iraq on the cheap, and got us into a mess while trying to limit the already-too-small size of the military. We don't have enough troops to do the job as it should be done. Note this is NOT an endorsement of the "surge" tactic, as I'm not talking about troop strength in Iraq, but overall size of our forces. We have little choice but do the best we can, but I imagine our guys in the field can succeed. That said, even after the Iraqi government sorts itself out, we're in a fourth-generation war and part of the war will be in Iraq for years if not decades to come. We can, to a degree, choose how much of it to fight there, but we will continue to be engaged.

Its very hard to say. And I don't think that it depends on who is in the White House after Bush. There is no easy answer to the war. If we just leave all of a sudden, Iraq could crumble into total anarchy. If we stay, we'll just get more of the same for the forseeable future. The solutions to Iraq's problems will not be military ones, that's for sure.

Not until some time after Jan 21, 2009. Depends on who takes the White House in the 2008 elections

The war will end in Iraq whe we either believe the Iraqis are able to handle their national security or there is a change in policy or administration.
